Ramban, Aug 06 (KNO): National Conference (NC) Chief Minister’s Adivsor, Nasir Aslam Wani, on Thursday urged politicians to maintain dignity in public discourse, saying ideological differences should never lead to abusive or derogatory language.
Talking to reporters during a visit to Jablipora Bijbehara and Ramban, Wani, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that political debate should remain civil and respectful, particularly towards senior leaders.
"In the last few days, some political leaders have been using abusive and derogatory language. Political parties can have differences of opinion, but that should never become a reason to stoop so low or use the language of the marketplace. We must respect our elders and uphold the dignity of politics," he said.
Reiterating the National Conference's stand on the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood, Wani said the party would continue to raise the issue at every available forum until it is achieved.
"The demand for the restoration of statehood is our commitment to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. We will continue to raise this issue on every platform and pursue it through all democratic means," he said.
Addressing concerns over the transportation of horticultural produce, Wani said the government was fully aware of the difficulties faced by fruit growers and traders due to disruptions on the national highway.
He assured that every possible measure would be taken to ensure the uninterrupted movement of fruit-laden trucks during the peak harvesting and marketing season.
"We are here in Ramban to identify bottlenecks and assess the ground situation. Necessary steps will be taken to remove all obstacles so that fruit-laden vehicles can move smoothly on the highway without unnecessary delays," he said.
Acting on the directions of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, a high-level National Conference delegation conducted an extensive inspection of the Ramban stretch of NH-44 to review the prevailing situation and monitor restoration efforts.
The delegation was led by Minister Javed Ahmad Dar and Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani and included MLA Banihal Sajjad Shaheen, MLA Anantnag Abdul Majeed Larmi, MLA Ramban Arjun Singh Raju and other senior party leaders.
Senior officers from the civil administration, Traffic Police, J&K Police and the National Highway authorities also accompanied the delegation during the visit.
The team inspected road restoration works, assessed traffic management arrangements, reviewed the condition of vulnerable stretches and interacted with officials to ensure that all necessary measures are being taken for the smooth and hassle-free movement of traffic, particularly vehicles carrying perishable horticultural produce.
The delegation directed the concerned agencies to work in close coordination and expedite restoration wherever required so that disruptions on the strategic highway are minimised and commuters, transporters and fruit growers do not face avoidable inconvenience—(KNO)
